The oldest chocolate factory in Portugal, Avianense, opened in 1914 with the purpose of producing chocolate bars, eggs, cocoa powder, barley, napolitanas, and various bonbons - such as the famous "Imperador" that brought great fame to the house. It went through less sweet times but returned to activity in recent years, settling in Barcelos, determined to combine old techniques with technological innovations. It asserts itself as "a tradition without imitation."
